In the Groove is a song that was specially written for classroom use to teach children about different styles of music. This is a very easy song to learn and has been arranged in six different styles; Blues, Baroque, Latin, Bhangra, Folk and Funk. Each week you will listen and learn a different style of In the Groove.
Art
Craft and design: Map it out
This unit focuses on teaching children to explore and create maps through various art forms, including drawing, felt making, printmaking, and designing stained glass. The lessons aim to develop skills in sorting, designing, and evaluating art, encouraging students to present and discuss their creations in a class gallery setting.
Computing
Programming A – Moving a Robot
This unit introduces learners to early programming concepts. Learners will explore using individual commands, both with other learners and as part of a computer program. They will identify what each floor robot command does and use that knowledge to start predicting the outcome of programs. The unit is paced to ensure time is spent on all aspects of programming and builds knowledge in a structured manner. Learners are also introduced to the early stages of program design through the introduction of algorithms.
PE
Our PE day will be on a Monday only. This is due to having two sessions this day. One session will be with our coach from Amber Valley Sports Partnership and the other session will be from Yoga Bugs. Children will need to come into school in their PE kit on their PE days.
Home learning
For phonics, we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme. The children take home a reading book each week that closely links with their phonics stage. We encourage them to read this as much as possible over the week before returning it to school. You can also take a look at the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Resources for Parents page: For parents | Letters and Sounds (littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk)
In addition to this, children take home a book which they choose from our school library to read for pleasure with their parents/carers.
For maths, we encourage the children to log on to Numbots each night and practise just a few questions.
You can also use the White Rose One-Minute Maths which is a great resource when time is limited.
