Adventurers

Welcome to Adventurers 2025 - 2026

We are a mixed-age class of Year 1 and Year 2 children.

Our class teacher is Miss Greveson.

Miss Nash also supports us in our learning each day.

Autumn 2 2025

English

In English we will be reading the story of 'Dear Earth' by Isabel Otter and Clara Anganuzzi and 'Astro Girl' by Ken Wilson-Max.

In our learning about 'Dear Earth' children will form an explorers’ Club and decide where in the world they’d like to explore and what they’d want to see and do. Children will write about these aspirations and pin them to a world map. Children go on to write about what explorers need to do before going on a mini safari and then research and record factual statements about endangered animals. As they read through the book, children will write setting descriptions of landscapes around the world and turn these into poems about exploration. As they continue to read about Tessa’s imagined travels, children write a script for a travel vlog. At the end of the story, children are challenged to think about and discuss the problems and solutions the planet faces and will write a persuasive speech encouraging the public to look after the environment.

In our learning about 'Astro Girl' children will explore a strong narrative and message about following dreams. The main character is a girl with an accomplished working mother and father who is the main caregiver at home. Facts on inclusive astronaut history are included, offering a vision for all children – particularly girls – who dream of pursuing careers in STEM and space travel.

Maths

For Maths we follow White Rose Education. This half-term, the Year 1 and Year 2 children will be learning about addition and subtraction, place value and Shape. Tiny will always be on hand to help the class with their maths learning!

Science

Animals Including Humans – All about animals!

Children will learn how to identify, name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body and say which part of the body is associated with each sense.

Geography

What can we find in the woods?

Children will explore the countries of the UK, the seasons and identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the UK.

RE

We will be exploring the question: How and why do we celebrate special and sacred times?

PSHE

Jigsaw piece – celebrating difference

Children will explore that everyone is different.

Music

Ho, Ho, Ho

A Christmas song by Joanna Mangona and Jane Sebba.

Art

Making Birds:

  • Children will use a range of materials creatively to design and make products
  • Use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination
  •  Develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space
  • Know about the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work.

Computing

Data and Information – Pictograms

This unit introduces the learners to the term ‘data’. Learners will begin to understand what data means and how this can be collected in the form of a tally chart. They will learn the term ‘attribute’ and use this to help them organise data. They will then progress onto presenting data in the form of pictograms and finally block diagrams. Learners will use the data presented to answer questions.

PE

Our PE days are on a Wednesday and Friday.

Please remember to come in your PE kit on these days and to remove all jewellery. Small stud earrings should also be removed or covered with tape for PE. Thank you.

Children will develop their fundamental skills by throwing, catching, rolling and dribbling with both hands and feet this half-term.

Home learning

For phonics, we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme. The children take home a reading book each week that closely links with their phonics stage. We encourage them to read this as much as possible over the week before returning it to school. You can also take a look at the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Resources for Parents page: For parents | Letters and Sounds (littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk)

In addition to this, children take home a book which they choose from our school library to read for pleasure with their parents/carers.

For maths, we encourage the children to log on to Numbots each night and practise just a few questions.

You can also use the White Rose One-Minute Maths which is a great resource when time is limited.
